GSL
Trustees Annual Report for the year ended 31 December 2005 Major activities and achievements in the year.
1ST CREIGIAU SCOUT
GROUP
The Trustees now recognise that the
replacement of at least the wooden part of the present Hall is
becoming a matter of urgency and have taken steps to start a
replacement project.
The Group remains soundly based, with
numbers slightly up. All sections followed their normal full
programmes. The Beaver Colony has remained at its maximum of 24
(with a long waiting list). They are as enthusiastic as ever.
They thoroughly enjoyed an Area Fun day and the Area Day in the
Bay event in September. Highlights for the Cubs were again the
annual camp and the Craft Fair, at which £ 200 was raised for
charity. The older Scouts experienced challenging excursions,
including Duke of Edinburgh award scheme Bronze level
expeditions, while the Troop as a whole enjoyed many outdoor
activities including Youth Hostelling and camping, culminating
in the annual summer camp, this year at "Come to Tolmers", an
action packed 6 days.
Although Explorer Scout Units are District
based and open to Scouts from any Troop, the Unit operating from
Creigiau is formally partnered with our Group and the Trustees
therefore have a responsibility in its operation. The Unit,
which caters for young people aged 14 to 18, is proving
extremely successful, with around 50 members. Most are
partaking in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme at Bronze,
Silver and Gold levels. Some Explorers enjoyed an expedition to
the Isle of Mull and some camped with the Scout Troop at Tolmers.
As ever the Trustees are most grateful to
all the warranted leaders, helpers, parents, Group Executive
Committee officers and members, without whom the Scout Group
simply would not exist.
The Trustees have identified the condition
of the Scout Hall as the major risk to which they believe the
Group is exposed. They have established a working group to deal
with this risk.
The object of the Group is to provide good
quality Scouting for the village of Creigiau and the surrounding
area, to provide a community facility for the village and to
provide a base and support for The Celts Explorer Unit.
The Group is a trust established under its
rules, which are common to all Groups.
Trustees are appointed in accordance with
the Policy, Organisation and Rules of the Scout Association.
The accounts have been drawn up on the
receipts and payments basis, which is consistent with the
previous year.
