1st Creigiau Scout Group is located in a small village, about 10miles outside Cardiff, Wales. The population of the village is about 2500 people. The Group was formed in 1985 to answer the demand for Scouting in the rapidly growing village. After much effort the Group moved into its own Headquarters in 1991 in the present Hall. The Group now consists of a Beaver Colony for 6 to 8 year olds. A Cub Pack for 8 to 10½ and the Scout Troop for 10½ to 14 year olds. We have an Explorer Scout Unit partnered with the Group "1st Celtic Explorer Scout Unit (The Celts)". This is for young people aged 14 to 18, who are in The Afon District. There are altogether 101 boys and girls in the Group and 10 warranted leaders, supported by an enthusiastic Group Executive Committee. Recent innovations for the Group have been the admission of girls throughout each section. The young people in the Scout Troop will be able to participate in Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award, and they can continue the Award Scheme when they move on to the Explorer Unit. In the end of 2007 we finally raised the money to renovate the hall. The roof was made water tight, then this was closely followed by the walls that where replaced due to some vandalism and the general state of the wooden construction. This now provides a better facility for the growing Group, and a location for other village organisations which use the present hall such as Cylch Meithrin (Welsh Play group) and Ti-a-fi (Welsh Parent and toddlers).
